CDP Verification: 2018 Deadline Approaching Fast

There are less than two months for organisations to secure verification of Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) data – and as a Gold Verification Member of CDP, Bureau Veritas is reminding clients of the benefits of independent verification.

With carbon reduction firmly on the corporate agenda and an increased focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, reporting carbon emissions data to CDP remains one of the most effective ways for an organisation to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability.

Participating companies are required to complete verification of their data and submit their questionnaires to CDP by 31 July 2018. This will ensure they are included in CDP’s online database, which is the largest registry of corporate GHG emissions and corporate climate change strategies in the world.

Crucially, they can secure more CDP points by gaining independent verification from an accredited verification partner like Bureau Veritas.

A new approach

This year sees the introduction of CDP’s new sector-based approach to environmental reporting, following calls for sector-based disclosure from investors to enable easier and more meaningful comparison of company progress.

For the first time, CDP will report on individual sectors such as agriculture, energy, materials and transport, focusing on the sector-specific performance metrics that have the most environmental impact.

Gold Member support

Lina Hilwani, sustainability services manager for Bureau Veritas, said:

“CDP is seen as the gold standard for carbon disclosure methodology and process, providing essential climate change data to the global market, particularly investors.

“It is an increasingly popular way for organisations to demonstrate their commitment and transparency when it comes to carbon reduction, but time is fast running out to secure verification before the deadline on 31 July.

“Our specialist assurance and sustainability team provide companies with third-party certification, verification and assurance of climate or sustainability data and as a Gold Member of CDP, our clients have complete confidence in our services.

“In fact, Gold Member status confirms that our verification services are accredited under internationally-recognised standards, including relevant ISO or ISAE standards, and that we are accredited to perform certification under schemes such as the EU ETS and Western Climate Initiative.”
